CNIC Staff elect new personnel representatives (Delegates).

Employees of the Cameroon Shipyard and Industrial Engineering Ltd. (CNIC) voted on Thursday, 26 April 2007 for their Staff representatives charged with defending their interest in all instances as provided by the Cameroon Labour Code and other ratified international Labour instruments.

Prior to the elections, Management released a comprehensive list of candidates vying to become “Delegates” as well as names of employees eligible to vote in their respective colleges.

Sub-divided into two colleges, the 1 st Electoral College covered workers from categories 1 - VI; to elect a total of four representatives - 2 substantive and 2 substitutes while the 2 nd Electoral College comprised staff from categories VII – XII with a total of six representatives - 3 substantive and 3 substitutes.

In an exercise earlier considered by some as having no major stakes (a subtle comparison with the fierce contests during primaries for imminent municipal & legislative elections within the country) candidates had two weeks to campaign a task in which the “desire to promote an active social dialogue between the employer & employees, equity and the respect of the provisions of the labour code in all decisions affecting workers” were the most recurrent issues.
