Construction of Breakwater Completed, Provisional Handing over effected
The 700m x 8m Breakwater (700m long x 60m wide on the seabed) whose construction works commenced in February 2005 has been completed.
During the provisional reception ceremony that took place at the project industrial site in Limbe on Tuesday 22 nd May 2007, Mr Meije De Boer - Project Manager of Interbeton bv. (Contracting firm for the Breakwater Component) revealed that the just completed works necessitated the use of 1.5 million tonnes of rock, from an overall close to 3 million tonnes of rock material extracted from the quarry and the compacting of 50 000m3 of top soil.
With the completion of the Breakwater valued at 20billion FCFA and considered as technically the most challenging lot of the industrial component, it is estimated that the overall project execution level now stands at more than 60% with over 80% of total marine works fully executed.
Speaking at the handing over event, Mr. De Boer highlighted the collaboration received from CNIC’s Management, the local population and praised the commitment of his own collaborators and staff as having played a significant role in the successful execution of the project.
On his part, CNIC’s General Manager - Mr. Z. M. Forjindam - commended Interbeton bv. for the quality of the work executed and its safety record with no accident recorded in spite of the high intensity of traffic between the Batoke quarry and the project site along a densely inhabited area.
Prominent amongst personalities who witnessed the handing over were Mr. Merouchi - the Project Lead Consultant, Mr. Moumbain Matapit - Chairperson of the Limbe Shipyard Project Ad Hoc Committee and Dr. Fonkam Azu’uh - Chairman and Members of the LSP Special Tenders Board.
