ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL ASPECTS

The execution of the Limbe Shipyard Project has been planned with an environmental protection component to ensure minimal negative impact on the environment and its surrounding communities.

To this end, an Environmental & Social Impact Assessment was carried out with the participation of the local community to identify potentially positive and negative effects. See See ESIA Executive Summary.

Following this study, an Environmental Management Plan was drawn up to reinforce the positive impacts and eliminate or greatly mitigate the negative effects. See EMP Plan.

A Resettlement plan for the people displaced from the appropriated site was worked out in concertation with the community members and local authorities. A new site has been allocated and CNIC is developing roads and social amenities like pipe borne water, electricity and sporting facilities in the area.

Emphasis was laid throughout on preserving, as much as possible, and improving on the existing social conditions as well as ensuring that the local community and the projected new inhabitants live in harmony with their environment.

For enquiries on the environment or social aspects, contact the Limbe Shipyard Task Force.
