PROCUREMENT

A Project Procurement Plan and Schedule was jointly established with the funding sources.

The plan envisages the following stages :

  • Lot 1 : Construction of a 700m long Breakwater:

    • Contract was awarded to Interbeton bv of The Netherlands.
    • Contract financed with Dutch bilateral funding (FMO/ORET Grant & ING Bank Loan), BDEAC & CNIC;
    • Contract became effective on 3 January 2005;
    • Contractor is fully mobilised and has started work on the site.
    • A quarry at Batoke has been opened and is being exploited by this Contractor as the source of rocks for the breakwater;
    • Starting of blasting operations at Batoke Quarry on June 17, 2005;
    • Starting of stone placing on the breakwater access: first truck on July 11, 2005.

    Lot 2 : Construction of a 400m long Quay Wall at -12m depth: (Financed by BADEA) & CNIC)

    • Contract was signed with Six Construct Co. Ltd on 1 September 2005 following contract negotiations.
    • The Duration of Execution is 19 months.

    Lot 3 : Dredging and Reclamation (Financed by the AfDB)

    • Contract negotiations being finalised.
    • Contract signature imminent.

    Lot 4 : Earthworks, roads, building and utilities (Financed by the IsDB)

    • Some site clearing, earth works performed by anticipation during the preparation of the launching ceremony:
    • Updating of tender documents underway.
    • International Call for Bids scheduled before end of year 2005.

    Lot 5 : Cranes and working equipment (Financed by the AfDB)

    • Definition of equipment requirements underway.

    Lot 6 : Rig dock and floating equipment (Financed by the IsDB)

    • Definition of the equipment and specifications underway.

    Employee Housing Programme :

    Site Development to be financed by the AfDB

    • Demarcation of 25 ha site complete;
    • Demarcation of 75 ha site underway.
