Present in Douala within the framework of his maiden contact tour of external services and enterprises or corporations under the supervisory authority of his Ministry, His Excellency DAKOLE DAISALA – Minister of Transport paid two visits to the Cameroon Shipyard and Industrial Engineering Ltd. (CNIC). The first of these visits took place on Wednesday 9 th February 2005 at the current premises and other facilities of CNIC in Douala while the second took him to the industrial site of the Limbe Shipyard Project on Thursday 10 th February 2005.

Visit of CNIC facilities in Douala
Accompanied by several senior officials of his Ministry, the secretary General of the Littoral Province (standing in for the Governor) and the Governor’s senior collaborators of the Forces of Law and Order, the Minister arrived the CNIC head office shortly before 11a.m. on that bright Wednesday morning. He was welcomed on arrival by the General Manager of CNIC flanked by his immediate collaborators.

After the traditional presentation of the bouquet of flowers, the Minister was led by the General Manager to visit the picture exhibition of CNIC’s recent activities, projects, or areas of competence. Impressed by the wide range of CNIC’s technological capabilities and potentials, the Minister put across several questions to which he received adequate explanations. Before moving unto the next stop of the visit, the Minister conveyed to Management Government’s delight at having CNIC play such a major role towards Cameroon’s industrialization.

The very next stop took the Minister to the General Manager’s Conference room where he, the delegation accompanying him and other personalities were treated to a Power Point presentation of CNIC, from inception through its major stages of evolution to current activity. The General Manager also seized this opportunity in his capacity as Chairperson of the Steering Committee of the Limbe Deep Seaport Project to make a succinct presentation thereof to the Minister giving also his status as supervisory authority of this latter project.

At the end of the PowerPoint presentation, the Minister was conducted to other CNIC field facilities such as Berth 17 and the “Union Industrielle pour le Cameroun” (UIC) industrial base – as CNIC’s subsidiary firm. After what can be considered to have been a theoretical briefing of the Minister on CNIC’s activities by the General Manager at the Conference room, the field visit enabled the Minister to have first hand experience of CNIC’s real capabilities, interact with the personnel who contribute significantly to the success story and be able to match explanations received with technical realities.

It is against this background that the Minister who was applauded even as he left the UIC industrial base found words of encouragement and congratulations for both the Management and Personnel of CNIC for what he described as their avant-garde contribution to Cameroon’s economic and industrial development. This visit could be considered as a befitting rehearsal for the second lap of the Minister’s visit next day, to CNIC facilities in Limbe on the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean.
